Flexible work attracts talent

Attention HR professionals: How do you attract a talented workforce? The answer is simple…offer a flexible work solution.

Donna Stewart, executive manager of Suncorp’s commercial insurance claims area came to this conclusion when she realised that they had trouble attracting skilled employees.

A flexible workforce solution seems to be the preferred option for most skilled workers, giving them the flexibility to work from home. In fact 70% of Suncorp’s insurance claims area is on a flexible work arrangement, and so far, so good.

The thought of a flexible work arrangement often provokes the notion of decreased efficiency and productivity levels, but not according to Westpac chief executive Gail Kelly.

According to HC Online, Kelly said that they have now set up communications links so contact-centre staff can work from home. “They don’t have to deal with the traffic in the morning. They’re at home when they want to be. They absolutely love it. And guess what? The productivity is better.”

Do you think offering a flexible work solution to skilled workers is the key to attracting a high calibre of talent who in turn have high productivity levels?
